Canon has introduced the EOS R8 Mark II, upgrading its compact full-frame mirrorless camera with in-body image stabilization, improved autofocus controls, and new creative shooting features. The camera is already listed by Canon Philippines as “Coming soon,” although local pricing and a specific release date have not been announced.
The R8 Mark II retains a 24.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor and DIGIC X processor, but now includes five-axis in-body image stabilization. When paired with compatible RF lenses, Canon says its Coordinated Control IS can provide up to 7.5 stops of stabilization at the center of the image.
Canon describes the R8 Mark II as its smallest and lightest full-frame mirrorless camera with IBIS. It measures about 131.4 × 90.0 × 79.7mm and weighs approximately 546g. It also gains a multi-controller, or autofocus joystick, previously more commonly found on higher-end EOS R cameras.
The camera can shoot at up to 40fps using its electronic shutter, matching the original R8, while adding Pre-Continuous Shooting that can capture up to 20 frames before the shutter button is fully pressed. Canon also says autofocus tracking has been improved and now includes Register People Priority for keeping selected people in focus in crowded scenes.
Video remains capable of uncropped 4K 60p recording oversampled from 6K and Full HD at up to 180p. Canon has also added 16 in-camera color filters, including new NegativeFilmtone and PositiveFilmtone options.
In the United States, the EOS R8 Mark II is priced at USD 1,899 (about PHP 119,000) for the body and USD 2,099 (about PHP 132,000) with an RF24-50mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM lens, with availability expected in late October.
Canon Philippines has yet to announce local pricing. For comparison, the original EOS R8 body is currently listed locally at PHP 93,998, down from its PHP 98,998 recommended retail price.
