OPPO has unveiled ColorOS 17, its latest Android 17-based operating system, with a redesigned interface, performance improvements, and expanded AI features. The update was introduced at the company’s developer conference in China on September 17.
The update introduces what OPPO calls Fluid Design, bringing new visual effects, animations, and touch feedback across the interface. A new rendering engine is also designed to make animations and transitions more responsive while reducing the resources required to run them.
OPPO says ColorOS 17 can reduce app memory usage by up to 25% and rendering workload by 30%. Its updated Tidal Engine learns how frequently and for how long users access apps to allocate system resources, with the company claiming a 55.6% improvement in keeping apps active in the background compared with ColorOS 16. These figures come from OPPO’s own laboratory testing.
The company has also expanded its AI tools, including photo editing and productivity features. In China, OPPO’s Xiaobu assistant can proactively surface reminders and organize information from supported apps and services, although these capabilities may differ when ColorOS 17 is released internationally.
The stable rollout begins in China on October 8 for devices including the OPPO Find N6 and Find X9 series, alongside selected OnePlus and realme models. Additional devices will receive the update in subsequent batches.
For Philippine users, however, there is no confirmed rollout schedule yet. OPPO’s Philippine website continues to feature ColorOS 16, and the company has not announced which locally sold devices will receive ColorOS 17 or when the update will arrive.
