Minecraft sales pass 425 million copies worldwide

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said more than 300,000 people play Minecraft for the first time on an average day, 17 years after its debut.

Minecraft has sold more than 425 million copies worldwide, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said in a September 26 post on X.

“More than 300,000 people play Minecraft for the first time on an average day,” Sharma said. That figure refers to first-time players, rather than copies sold each day.

Guinness World Records lists Minecraft as the best-selling video game, with an earlier milestone of more than 350 million copies in April 2025. Its entry cites Mojang’s official Minecraft Annual 2026 for that figure.

Minecraft first became publicly available in May 2009, before its full release in 2011. The latest sales figure spans more than 17 years since that early version.

Mojang’s September Minecraft Live recap confirmed that the Sift will come to Minecraft’s Java and Bedrock editions in 2027. It will be the game’s fourth dimension, joining the Overworld, the Nether, and the End, and its first new dimension in more than 14 years.

Minecraft is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27.
