OpenAI cuts ChatGPT Pro limits as Google tightens Gemini access

OpenAI will reduce Pro 200 allowances after October 29, as Google removes Gemini Pro from AI Plus and limits free users to Flash-Lite.

OpenAI will reduce the included usage allowance on its USD 200-a-month (about PHP 13,000) Pro 200 plan after October 29, while Google is preparing to remove Gemini Pro access from its cheaper AI Plus subscription.

Eligible existing OpenAI Pro 200 subscribers can keep their current allowance through October 29. After that, they will move to the lower allowance already given to new Pro 200 subscriptions, with the monthly price remaining at USD 200.

Business Insider reported that ChatGPT Work and Codex usage will fall from 20 times to 10 times the ChatGPT Plus allowance, while GPT-6 Pro will drop from 200 to 100 messages per week. OpenAI’s public help page confirms the lower allowance but does not publish those numerical limits.

OpenAI introduced Pro 500 on September 29 at USD 500 per month (about PHP 31,000). The plan has the highest included usage among OpenAI’s Pro tiers and is the only Pro plan with Astra Ultrafast for ChatGPT Work and Codex.

Google will restrict Gemini users without an AI subscription to Flash-Lite starting October 9, according to the company’s support page. AI Plus subscribers will retain Flash-Lite and Flash but lose the Pro model, with Google notifying subscribers when the change takes effect on their account. AI Pro and AI Ultra retain Pro access.

Google’s Philippine subscription page lists AI Plus at PHP 285 per month and AI Pro at PHP 1,100. AI Plus currently provides twice the standard Gemini usage allowance, while AI Pro provides four times the standard allowance.

Gemini’s usage limits have already been compute-based since May. Google calculates usage based on factors including prompt complexity, the model and features used, and chat length, with limits refreshing every five hours until a weekly cap is reached.

Google currently lists AI Ultra at five or 20 times the AI Pro usage allowance, depending on the subscription. Subscribers who reach a model limit can continue using Flash-Lite or wait for the allowance to refresh.
