Globe customers traveling to Japan can now use Starlink Mobile when regular cellular coverage is unavailable, extending the telco’s satellite-to-mobile service beyond the Philippines. The international access is provided through Starlink partner KDDI.
The service works alongside Globe’s regular GoRoam Japan roaming connection. In cellular dead zones, a compatible phone can connect directly to Starlink satellites for messaging, navigation, and other supported light-data apps without a separate satellite phone or terminal.
Customers need a compatible LTE or 5G Android or HarmonyOS device, an applicable GoRoam Japan promo, mobile data and data roaming enabled, and an unobstructed view of the sky. Globe’s current Starlink documentation says iPhones are not yet supported on its service.
GoRoam Japan starts at PHP 400 for seven days. The entry-level offer includes 2GB of all-access roaming data, plus 1GB of satellite data and 50 satellite texts to all networks. Globe’s existing roaming lineup also includes GoRoam Japan 700 with 5GB and GoRoam Japan 1100 with 20GB of regular roaming data.
The arrangement works in the other direction as well. KDDI customers have been able to use au Starlink Direct in the Philippines since August 31 through Globe, giving travelers satellite connectivity in locations outside conventional mobile coverage.
KDDI launched au Starlink Direct in Japan in April 2025 and later added satellite data support for selected apps. The Japanese operator says its terrestrial network reaches more than 99.9% of the population but covers about 60% of the country by area, with satellite connectivity intended to reach places such as mountains, remote islands, and other areas without cellular service.
Globe commercially launched its own Starlink satellite-to-mobile service in the Philippines in June. It currently supports texts and light data on compatible phones in areas without regular Globe coverage.
