OpenAI has begun rolling out ads in ChatGPT in the Philippines, bringing sponsored placements to eligible users on the Free and Go plans.
The rollout started on September 23 and also covers Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Taiwan. OpenAI said the expansion brings ChatGPT Ads to more than 60 countries.
Ads can appear below a ChatGPT response when OpenAI’s advertising system finds a relevant match. They are labeled as sponsored and visually separated from the response itself.

OpenAI says ads run on systems separate from the model that generates ChatGPT responses. Advertisers cannot pay to shape, rank, or change those answers.
The company may use the context and intent of the current conversation to select an ad. If ad personalization is enabled, additional signals from a user’s broader ChatGPT activity, including past chats and memory, may also be used to determine relevance.
OpenAI says advertisers do not receive users’ chats, chat histories, memories, or personal details. They receive aggregated, non-identifying performance information such as total views and clicks.
Ads may appear for users on the Free and Go plans. Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu accounts remain ad-free, and OpenAI says it does not show ads on accounts where the user says, or its systems predict, that the person is under 18. Temporary Chats also do not show ads.
Free users may also have access to an ads-free option without paying for a subscription, although OpenAI says this comes with lower usage limits and reduced access to some tools, including image generation and deep research. Availability can vary by region.
For advertisers, the Philippines is also listed among the countries where OpenAI’s self-service Ads Manager is available.
OpenAI first began testing ads in ChatGPT in the United States on February 9. The company later expanded the program to additional markets before the September rollout in Southeast Asia and Taiwan.
