Google says ChromeOS will keep receiving regular updates and security patches through mid-2034, and that it will support moving Chromebooks with support windows beyond that date to Googlebook OS.
The timeline appears in a support page for Chrome Enterprise and Education administrators, last updated September 23, 2026. Chromebooks sold today carry 10-year support lifecycles, so some run past 2034. For those devices, Google says it “is committed to supporting your transition to Googlebook OS, with many devices offering direct migration paths.”
Google has not said which Chromebooks qualify. It says many of its newest models will be eligible and that it will share device eligibility and migration details soon.
Existing Chrome Enterprise Upgrade and Chrome Education Upgrade licenses stay active for current Chromebooks throughout each device’s lifecycle, according to the page. Googlebooks, and Chromebooks migrated to Googlebook OS, will be managed under a new licensing structure.
The first Googlebooks are built for consumers and don’t support domain enrollment or centralized fleet management. Google says management features will start rolling out in the second half of 2027.
Google describes Googlebook OS as combining ChromeOS with the Android tech stack. Googlebook laptops from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo are open for preorder and start shipping October 4 in the US, Techaeris reported.
Chromebooks are sold in the Philippines, including through Acer Philippines and Lenovo Philippines. Philippine availability for Googlebooks has not been announced.
